Title: WWI 1917 Silver-Topped Military Swagger Stick – Dorsetshire Regiment – F. Narborough
A fine example of a British military swagger stick dating to the First World War. This piece features a sterling silver pommel top embossed with the crest of the Dorsetshire Regiment, including the Sphinx (commemorating Marabout) and the Castle and Key of Gibraltar.
Regiment: Dorsetshire Regiment (pre-1951 style).
Material: Authentic natural hawthorn wood shaft, known for its strength, characterful knots, and deep dark patina.
Silver Hallmarks: Fully hallmarked on the collar for sterling silver at the Birmingham Assay Office with the 1917 ('s') date letter.
Maker: F. Narborough (FN), a prestigious Birmingham-based military accoutrement and whip maker.
Condition: Excellent antique condition with a rich, dark original finish. The silver top shows minor age-related dings and light surface wear as expected for an active-service military piece. The natural hawthorn shaft is delightfully wonky, exhibiting a pronounced authentic curve along its length that gives it immense character.
Please note: Minor historic woodworm traces to the hawthorn shaft; dormant for many years but treated anyway.
