A well-proportioned 19th-century side chair, crafted from beech and finished in a traditional "faux bois" rosewood graining technique to replicate the look of exotic hardwood. The piece features elegant turned supports and a decorative carved crest rail.
The chair is constructed with a seat frame originally designed for rush seating. It currently features a replacement caned seat; please note that the weaving pattern is of a relatively open, simplistic design. The frame remains structurally sound, though there is minor historic wear consistent with age, including slight damage to both of the top finials, as documented in the provided photography.
Condition Report:
• The chair remains in its original, untouched condition, retaining a genuine historical patina.
• The frame is sturdy and retains a characterful, authentic patina.
• The "faux bois" finish is well-preserved across the turned spindles.
• The seat has been re-caned in an open pattern, as shown in the imagery.
• There is visible wear/damage to the finials at the top of the backrest, which has been highlighted for clarity.
