Victorian Cast Iron Fire Surround & Box
- A Stunning Period Piece for Restoration or Display
This is a genuine Victorian-era solid cast iron fire surround and integrated fireplace, complete with its original fire grate. A fantastic piece of architectural salvage, it offers immense character and is ready for a new life, whether restored to its former glory or celebrated in its current rustic state.
Key Features and Details
Material: Heavy, solid cast iron construction, typical of the Victorian period (c. late 19th Century).
Design: Features a classically styled mantelpiece with a decorative frieze displaying an intricate floral and foliate pattern (as seen clearly in the photos).
The inner, black cast iron section features additional intricate moulded detailing above the fire opening, including fluting and further floral/geometric motifs.
The pale blue/green paint on the surround appears to be old and chipped, revealing the heavy cast iron beneath, and has a great distressed/shabby chic look.
Original Components: Includes the original one peice cast iron box and the cast iron grate (trivet/fire basket), which sits within the opening.
Condition: Excellent for its age and type. It shows significant signs of age, wear, and use, including surface rust/patina on the firebox and grate, and chipped/worn paint on the surround. This is expected for an authentic antique of this nature and adds to its character.
Versatility: Ideal for period property restorations, for adding a feature fireplace to any room, or even for creative use as a decorative wall feature or garden ornament.
